Cara's Page II

"I Have Got A Dolly"

A silkscreen rendition of an old photo of Mom as a child in Germantown, PA. Cara captures a not quite understanding young Peggy who holds on to her doll baby for reassurance as the photographer clicks. Mom's mother, grandmom Murphy, barely visible but always in control, watches from inside the doorway. The title is from a song Cara remembers Mom singing to her as a child holding her dolly. The same song Mom probably had song to her by grandmom around the time this photo was shot. Some songs last forever......as do valuable images captured by caring artists. Thanks Cara.

"Eye Of The Tiger"

A silkscreen of a photo of dad as a baby; complete with curls. Since grandmom Higgins insisted on no haircut, dad's father must have figured the kid better learn to defend himself. Shown here with boxing gloves almost as big as he, dad plays his first role as the great pretender (an act he has perfected over time.) This picture was taken circa 1948 in the Richmond section of inner city Philadelphia where dad was born. Cara zooms in with her interpretation, adds a little variety to the background, and nails the tough guy.....curls and all. Great gift, Cara!

"Decoys At 10"

In 1986, a neighbor, Mrs. Tirpak saw a coloring book drawing Cara had made and remarked that she thought she had talent. Cara took a few painting lessons from her and produced this water color of two duck decoys. It was a gift for dad. Cara was age 10 and attended Woodlands elementary school at the time. The work was entered into the Seminole County student art exhibit that year. The label in the lower left says....Name: Cara Higgins, Age: 10, Woodlands Elementary.
